Liposuction

It is very effective cosmetic surgery operation, performed by removing fat from a small cut (0,3-0,5 cm) using a cannula (hollow tube) to correct body shape.

Liposuction is not the method of losing weight effortlessly.

Areas of fat pile mostly become genetically conditioned parts of body like abdomen, buttocks, thighs, the inner surface of thighs, knees and chin and it is impossible to remove it by dieting.

Non-traditional areas of fat pile are zones like cheeks, shoulders and back. It is proved that stress hormones, which provoke fat combustion, do not affect these areas. That is why exercise and diet are not effective ways to correct body shape.

The first tumescent liposuction in Georgia was performed in our clinic in early ’90’s. The first ultrasound liposuction was performed in 2001. Besides liposuction we also perform lipo filling - injections of fat taken from patient’s own body to fill soft tissues.

History

The first successful liposuction procedure was performed in 1974 by Italian gynecologist G. Fischer using gynecologic curette, the patient was Fischer’s wife.

In 1977 Illouz and Fournier worked out blunt cannulas.

In 1985, Klein worked our the special solution for liposuction (tumescent technique).

Ultrasound liposuction was pioneered by Zocci.

Operation

Operation is performed under local or general anesthesia. The operation duration ranges from 30 minutes to 3 hours. The cut on the skin does not excel 0,5 cm.

The targeted areas are marked on the body. Operation starts after a special solution is applied to the relevant areas.

The fat is removed using blunt cannulas, by pumping it out. After the operation the patient wears special compression garment.

The patient is discharged on ambulatory treatment in some hours after the operation.

Post-operation period

The patient can go back to work 2-3 days after the surgery.

Sutures are removed in 10-12 days. Swelling will subside in from two weeks to two months. Sometimes the sensibility in liposuction area might be lost for a while.

To get the desired result the patient should go through reabilitation and massage the operated areas.

The final result will be evident in 2-3 months after the surgery.

No physical activity is restricted. No evident scars are left after the surgery.
