Biliopancreatic shunting

Baliopancreatic shunting is indicated to patients with redundant weight more than 90 kg.

Gastric shunting is complex and combined procedure which includes restrictive and shunting components to diminish stomach size and devise digestive system in two parts in order to decrease the food absorption.

Food digestion and absorption is performed in the last part of the gall-bladder and amount of food taken by patient is not limited.

The operation also includes cutting-off of gall-bladder and appendix to prevent appendicitis and gallstone pancreatitis.

The operation is performed under general anesthesia for 4-6 hours.

The patient is discharged to ambulatory treatment in 5-6 days.

Gets back to work in 1 month.

The sutures are taken off in 10-12 days.

Driving is allowed in 1 month.

Heavy activity is limited for 2 months.

It is required to take anti-secretorial and iron medicines, poly-vitamins and calcium. Biliopancreatic shunting is indicated to patients with super morbid obesity and is the most effective way of losing weight.
