Abdominoplasty
is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed to correct abdomen form, to decreaze it’s size and remove loose tissues after pregnancy. The surgery is also performed in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall and correct navel form.
The collaborators of our clinic were first ones to establish abdominoplasty in Georgia. Nowadays, we perform abdominoplasty together with other operations.
The abdominoplasty in our clinic is frequently performed along with liposuction since 90’s. These two methods co-work with each other and as a result we get maximally desired aesthetic outcome. In a case of loose tissue under the navel, we perform miniabdominoplasty without correcting navel forms.
History
First abdominoplasty was performed by american surger G.A.Kelly in 1899. He used dermolipectomy method (extracting fatty skin, without mobilization of tissues).
In 1967 brazilian surger Pitanguy was the first to describe the operation and developed new standards which are still used nowadays.
These standards are: unseen scar above the pubic area, enough mobilization of fatty skin, correction of navel and tightening of abdominal wall.
Indications
Indications for abdominoplasty are: loose skin of abdomen, fat pile, ruptures of navel, etc.. It is often provoked by genetics, pregnancy and fast lose of weight.
Operation
Operation is performed under general anasthesia and it lasts for 2-5 hours. The incision is made above the pubic area, from hip to hip. The location of incision makes it possible to fully cover it with underwear.
In case of megaabdominoplasty T-shaped inversional insicion is made.
Afterwards the excess fat is removed and in case of problems with muscles the muscles are tightened. If the patient has a hernia the hernia is removed too.
While performing standard abdominoplasty the navel is replaced and needs plastic surgery to correct it. Just in case of loose skin under the navel is made miniabdominoplasty and no navel replacement is needed.
Sometimes patient loses more than 40 kg-s and not only the abdominal wall but buttocks and thighs loose too, in this case in addition to abdominoplasty bodylifting should be made. While combinating these two methods it is important to get steady outcome with minimal sutures and maximally aesthetic result.
It is necessary to wear special bandage for 4 weeks after the surgery. It may be needed to have a drainage, which will last for 2-4 days.
Post-operation period
Depending on surgery the patient is discharged to ambulatory treatment in 3-6 days after the operation.
Sutures are removed in 10-12 days. Sometimes sensibility of operated area might be lost for a while. Driving a car is possible in 2 weeks.
Heavy activity has to be avoided for 2 months. The scar will be finally form in 12 months after the surgery.
