“ESTA Kuzanov Clinic”

Clinic was found in 1978, after professor I. Kuzanov returned to Georgia from Moscow, where he and reconstructive-plastic and aesthetic surgeons (R. Akchurin, N. Milanov, G. Stepanov, K. Abalsamov, T. Peradze), under the guidance of professor V. Krilov found microsurgical service which already functioned in Moscow, Kiev and Saint-Petersburg.

They were first to perform such operations as Re-plantation of amputated segments of extremities. Professors I. Kuzanov and G. Natsvlishvili found emergency microsurgical department on the basis of 1st hospital.

G. Ioseliani, J. Jikidze, J. Kumsiashvili were the ones to pioneer microsurgery in Georgia. Prof. I Kuzanov leaded such operations as re-implantation of amputated finger (First time in Georgia), re-implantation of amputated hand of 4 years-old child(First time in USSR), The first reconstruction of painter’s finger using vascular auto-implant taken from the area between the toes together with between-falangeal joint, in the World. First time in Georgia toe was implanted to hand and were transplanted such auto implants (flaps) as radial vascular auto implant, auto implants taken from the back, shoulder flap, thigh’s delicate muscle, TRAM flap, DIEP flap.

Prof. I. Kuzanov and prof. G. Natsvlishvili were awarded with USSR national prize in 1982, for merit put into microsurgery development.

Since 1984, together with oncologists Prof. I. Kuzanov and Prof. K. Mardaleishvili leaded first one-step operations in USSR, when after amputating cancer formations, lost structures and organs were reconstructed in one procedure.

One of the founders of microsurgery in the world – B. O’Brian visited Georgia in order to interchange the medical experience.

In 1994, the first time in the world phalloplasty was performed using original method: Using non-dominant third finger, which gives the opportunity to restore all the functions at once.

In early 90’s Prof. I. Kuzanov founded the first private clinic where aesthetic operations were held: ultra-sound and tuminescent liposuction, breast augmentation using auto tissues and implants, first time in Georgia rhinoplasty was performed under general anesthesia and pioneered the open method of rhinoplasty.

Widely spread operations also became abdominoplasty, body lifting, breast reduction, breast lifting, face lifting, blepharoplasty, lip augmentation.

Since 2000, leaded by professor I. Kuzanov and doctor of medical science G. Kuzanov we perform small invasions to correct the outline of person’s body and face, small invasions are also performed in case of wrinkles’ correction. Started functioning cosmetology and laser service, which gives the opportunity to rehabilitate patient in the shortest time and treat such after-effects as cheloid cicatrix.

In 2004, professor I. Kuzanov and doctor of medical science N. Gvakharia introduced bariatric surgery (stoutness treatment), which implies such procedures as intragastric balloon treatment, gastric shunting, biliopancreatic diversion.

Onco-mammology service set up in 2007 leaded by professor I. Kuzanov and G. Dzagnidze in order to treat women with breast cancer. Patients’ breast can be reconstructed in one-step, together with mastectomy or later.

One of the main priorities of our clinic is the permanent rising of staff’s qualification. Doctors of our clinic have courses in world’s leading clinics; take parts in master-classes. Our doctors successfully speak at international congresses.

We observe each post-operation outcome for a long time and analyze them, which gives the opportunity to make some improvements in operation technique and to choose the needed method of operation individually in each case.

Clinic is also the basis of the Medical University. Leaded by professor I. Kuzanov 18 reconstruction-plastic surgeons were raised here, which nowadays are leading plastic surgeons in Georgia and best of them still work in our clinic.
